York Conferences Chefs Win Silver

York chefs Andrew Wood and Steve Preston competed against nine other teams at the 2011 Flavour Pairing Cookery Challenge held in Birmingham winning a silver medal and an award for excellent hygiene skills. This is great news for those holding conferences and events with York Conferences in the near future who can rest assured that the taste and high quality of their food will be something to remember.

Andrew Wood commented, "The dishes were based around flavour pairings, we used tomato and turmeric to cook Turmeric crusted lamb with Israeli Cous Cous and Lamb Pastilla for the main course and we used honey and nutmeg to create Poached Tamarillo with Bavarois with Blackcurrant Sorbet for the dessert."

This was only the second time Steve has competed in a competition and with only 45 minutes to produce the two courses his skills were put to the test. Steve said "I was naturally pretty nervous, especially when I was unpacking the ingredients as I was worried that I had left a crucial ingredient or item of equipment behind, but once the competition was underway and the clock started ticking I felt fine. The time seemed to fly by and we were soon plating up the dishes."

Both Andrew and Steve were really pleased with the end result and enjoyed the experience. Their positive attitudes and passion for catering are a great example of the effort that goes into creating great conferences and events in York.
