Awards Haul for Well Met Conferencing
June 2011

Well Met Conferencing at Leeds Metropolitan University swept the board at the Leeds Hotels & Venues Association Awards dinner as they scooped three awards at the prestigious ceremony at the Leeds Marriott Hotel held on Thursday 16 June.

Well Met Conferencing was nominated in five categories of the awards and took a podium place in three out of the five. Top spots were achieved for Bright Idea and Leeds Live It Love It. Dawn Turner scooped gold with her ‘Bright Idea' nomination and the Leeds Live it Love it accolade went to Well Met's Carnegie Village venue for being instrumental in attracting high profile business to the city from all over the world.

Since opening just 18 months ago, Carnegie Village has hosted the Language Study Centre, Council for Europe, the South African Olympic Delegation and the England Rugby Union Junior Squad.

By successfully securing business from the Language Study Centre, Carnegie Village has brought over 450 students and 30 tutors to the city within the last year, representing over £450,000 of revenue for the university and over £680,000 in economic impact for the city. This achievement will be repeated again in summer 2011.

Glen Jones, the UK & USA Operations Manager for Language Study Centres, said:
"Carnegie Village proved to be extremely popular with groups from Italy & Russia in 2010. The combination of excellent campus facilities, high class accommodation and fantastic choice of excursion destinations meant that it only made sense to return and expand in 2011."

Well Met's Geoff Ibbotson achieved a highly commended for his commitment to Exceptional Customer Service. Geoff was nominated due to his dedication to supporting clients and colleagues and consistently going that extra mile to ensure events are successful. Renowned throughout the University as ‘the man who can', Geoff consistently exceeds expectations.

The accolades follow the prestigious GOLD Accredited in Meetings certification from the Meetings Industry Association (MIA) which was awarded to the University earlier this week.

Kate Pitcher, Business Development Manager for Well Met Conferencing, said:
"It's been a week of celebrations for the team at Well Met and last night really was the icing on the cake. To achieve two gold awards as well as be positioned in the top three in three out of the five categories is an exceptional achievement. We were up against some really strong contenders at this year's ceremony and to do so well highlights our ambitions to make Well Met a great venue with the highest standards of customer service."

Deborah Green, Chief Executive of Marketing Leeds said:
"People judging these types of awards always say how difficult the judging process has been. But in this case it is so true. Every year the standard has increased and every year I am inspired by the quality of the applications we receive and re-energised by the passion and commitment to achieving excellence that I see in the entries. It is due to this high calibre of entries that we have added, not only runner up prizes but also recognised those that were highly commended. Therefore, anyone who is nominated should feel very proud and I am certainly honoured to share this experience with the people who make Leeds such a great place to visit and work."

The Leeds Hotels & Venues Association Awards are designed to celebrate and reward the talent, dedication and commitment to excellence of the city's hotel and conferencing trade, particularly highlighting the achievements of the conferencing and hospitality staff who demonstrate exceptional standards in each of the six award categories.
