Warwick Achieves National Green Star Award

Warwick Achieves National Green Star Award
August 2011

Warwick Conferences' environmental policy has been awarded gold status by the IACC (International Association of Conference Centers) Green Star accreditation - a major industry honour.

It won the accolade after demonstrating its support of IACC's code of sustainability, which strives for a more environmentally responsible conferencing sector.

For IACC members to achieve gold status they are required to adhere to at least 85% of 55 stringent environmental targets, including water conversation, energy management and air quality.

Andrew Taylor, food and beverage manager at the Radcliffe training and conference venue, said: "Last year we scooped silver and that, while an excellent achievement, spurred us on to get gold.

"To meet this goal we implemented a number of measures, such as more effective use of energy and water and enhanced recycling procedures.

"We are proud to be a very forward-thinking organisation when it comes to environmental policy. Not only is it a responsible thing to do, it also makes business sense because it saves on costs.

"Because of increased environmental awareness, our customers are extremely conscious of environmental issues, so they expect it to be embedded in our culture."
