Sustainable Green Tourism silver award for Weetwood Hall

Sustainable Green Tourism silver award for Weetwood Hall
September 2011

Award winning Weetwood Hall Conference Centre & Hotel in Leeds has received the silver award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) for their efforts in environmental and sustainable working practices.

Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) is the national sustainable tourism certification for the UK and one of the largest and most established schemes of its kind in the world.

This was Weetwood Hall's first assessment by the GTBS upon becoming a member and its initial success reflects the hard work and enthusiasm by the team at Weetwood Hall to developing responsible sustainable tourism practises. This is supported by the team's commitment towards the local community and the Head Chef's passion for regionally sourced food.

At the suggestion of Catriona McLees, Sustainable Tourism Manager for Welcome to Yorkshire, one of Weetwood Hall's green initiatives was to develop a more visitor friendly and interactive sustainability website pages to encourage guests to help in the reduction of their carbon footprint whilst staying.

Said Peter Chubb, General Manager of Weetwood Hall, "We take very seriously sustainability and environmental issues and are delighted that our 'thinking green' efforts have been recognized by GTBS as more and more conference and events organizers are looking for venues with proven sustainable working practices."
